- Enroth: Setting of Heroes of Might and Magic I-II and Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven
- Jadame: Setting of Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer, Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, and some of Horn of the Abyss
In addition, other islands and landmasses are said to exist on the planet, but are largely unseen in the games.
History[edit | edit source]
The Elemental Lords created Enroth when the elements were bound together by godlike beings, nearly ten millennia before the Silence. A truce was forced upon the Elemental Lords, preventing them from separating the elements for ten thousand years. Part of the planet, located below its surface and called the World Tree, served as the source of life on Enroth.
In the last centuries BS, the Ancients seeded this planet with VARN MCMIV. Nearly all of Enroth's peoples are descended from the colonists brought by this ship or trace their origins to them. The Ancients gave their children access to extremely advanced technology and guided them via the Web of Worlds. This period came to be known as the Time of Wonders. Enroth was intended by the Ancients to be a perfect world, free of war and famine. However, it fell into decline after the Silence.
Having lost contact with other colonies and the Ancients, Enroth was not only consumed by internal strife, but also had to face outside threats several times over the centuries. The Elemental Lords tried to separate the elements when the truce had come to an end, the Kreegan invaded during the Night of Shooting Stars, and Escaton misguidedly attempted to purge the planet.
Despite being saved from all these threats, Enroth was rendered uninhabitable after the Reckoning in the 1170s AS.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- This world is probably named after the late Ronald Enroth, who was a researcher into cults. This correlates with the cult of Baa being important to the Kreegan plan of conquering the planet, and with the similarly-named Roland being the king of Enroth.
- A year on Enroth lasts 336 days, as indicated by the in-game time system in Might and Magic VI-VIII, with 12 months in a year and 28 days in each month. A week lasts 7 days, and there are 24 hours in a day.
- Although this is not directly confirmed, the gods who forced the Elemental Lords into a truce, mentioned in Masters of the Elements, are most likely the Ancients. Might and Magic games have repeatedly shown them using the Elemental Planes as part of their worldcrafting experiments, and Enroth eventually became one of their colonies.
- Dark elf legends prophesizing the coming of Escaton tell that "the world has been formed and destroyed many times, the Lords of Air, the Water, the Fire and the Earth both give life and take it away", as mentioned in Might and Magic VIII. Given the context of the game's story, this likely refer to similar events happening in other worlds, but there is room for a more literal interpretation in regards to Enroth.
- Some fans theorize that Ardon, the setting of Crusaders of Might and Magic, Warriors of Might and Magic and Shifters, is not a different world, but a continent on Enroth.
