Underworld |
A nefarious subterranean realm that ruins the minds and morale of those who enter. The Underworld extends across a vast territory, being likened to "a world beneath the real world", and is divided into several levels. Ruled by demons, also home to necromancers, the undead, and other creatures.
It is represented by the Inferno, the
Necropolis and the
Dungeon.
Towns (Erathian)[edit | edit source]
Meddington: A town on the surface near the entrance to the Underworld.
Point Dume: Located on the third level of the Underworld. Had issues with "enemies sneaking in all too easily".
Steadfast: An outpost on the third level of the Underworld.
Worthington: Located on the fourth level of the Underworld. The demons engaged in psychological warfare here, launching constant skirmishes and burning buildings to prevent the defenders from sleeping.
Tarnum solved this by having the
Monks teach his army to meditate.
Locations[edit | edit source]
- Cerberus Gate: The entrance to the Underworld, located north of Meddngton.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- It is left open for interpretation whether or not the Underworld demons are Kreegan. Information from the games and developers provides basis for both assumptions.
- Forces of the Underworld, led by Duke Deezelisk, tried to conquer Erathia during its first years, but were repelled by Rion Gryphonheart.
- By the end of Conquest of the Underworld, Erathian forces have launched a massive assault that is cleansing the Underworld of demon influence. This ties into it not being featured in any of the games that take place later in the timeline.
- At least individual demons were still present on Enroth during the following centuries, predating the Night of Shooting Stars. They inhabit Daemon Caves, featured in Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest and Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars.
- In Target, Sandro also encounters a Pit Fiend named Shalongrarg. Although likely part of the recent Kreegan invasion, he, Jared and their forces may be remnants of the Underworld, since there is a slight possibility that the scenario takes place before the Night of Shooting Stars.
