Tavin is barely the only halflings who joined the army of Erathia. Other halflings disapprove his way of living as these creatures do not like adventures. However, his folks respect him, even if they fear a bit and tend to avoid him. When Kreegans invaded Eeofol, Tavin quickly became a leader of local resistances, and is still ready to defend his homeland.

Story[edit | edit source]

The leader of Tavin's Guerillas - a halfling insurrection against the Kreegans during the War of the Blade.

Horn of the Abyss Horn of the Abyss[edit | edit source]

Uncharacteristically for a Halfling (Factory) Halfling, Tavin left his home village of his own free will to join the Erathian border guards. There he served with XarfaxXarfax Xarfax for 15 years. On the Night of Shooting Stars, Tavin went to rendezvous with him, only to nearly be killed when the bewitched knight turned on him. Despite this, he managed to rally some halflings into a fighting force and helped HenriettaHenrietta Henrietta gather as many as she could and fight her way to FrederickFrederick Frederick's Laboratory. Knowing that the halflings wouldn't escape without a distraction, Tavin took it upon himself to lead the Kreegans away, seemingly at the cost of his own life.

His years of military service served him well, however, and Tavin single-handedly led the Kreegans’ chasing party on a false trail, making them believe there was a full squad of Halfling Grenadier Halfling Grenadiers lurking in the woods. Initially, he invested all his strength into surviving on his own, but later began to find some companions and free some slaves, eventaully growing his forces into the halfling resistance known as Tavin's Guerillas. These guerillas effectively harassed the Kreegans all the way through the War of the Blade, even killing Xex (one of the Kreegan commanders).

Years of military service had left visible marks on the hard face of the commander—his gray, faded eyes were deeply sunken, his nose was broken, and his thin cheek twitched distressingly every now and then.

Tavin's War Diary[edit | edit source]

Day Message
11 I can't believe it: the Lords of Erathia are actually withdrawing their support for Queen Catherine! At first I believed that our new allies, the elementals, would come in and crush the devils like rotten pumpkins, but I guess I just wanted it to be that way too much. The war proved things like that never come easy. A messenger from the Forest Guard reported that elementalist Ciele had fallen into a trap, and now the devils were holding her in a prison somewhere on the border with Eeofol.

When we heard this, we stopped dreaming of smooth sailing. It became clear: even getting the sorceress out of her imprisonment will be a bear of a job. A large Kreegan detachment was guarding the prison, and what's more, they spotted us on the way up, as if they knew we'd be there.

Retreat back through the mountains? Too late, we've been cut off. We need to run deep into the Land of the Giants. There's a camp of Forest Guard archers nearby, where that messenger came from, so we should go there.

12 On our way to the camp we met a centaur tribe. Upon hearing of the advancing army of demons, the elf in command of the camp ordered his men to leave immediately. He also reported that on the other side of the lake there was an old Erathian outpost. There might still be someone there.
13 On top of the Erathian soldiers, I have met several of my fellow halflings. They all say that a whole army has appeared south of here, in the Land of the Giants, out of thin air! I couldn't figure out what kind of army they were talking about, but it didn't seem to be elementals. The halflings were talking about copper spiders, men with iron sticks, and feathered serpents. I have no idea what kind of “army” they are, but one thing is clear: they are not our enemies, and they are fighting the devils, too.
